For bakers who don't want to break the bank, this mixer, with dual countertop and handheld functionality, tackles most jobs with ease. It also comes with whisk, beater and dough hook attachments.

BEST FOR LARGE BATCHES

amazon.com

If capacity is key, the Pro Line's 7-qt. stainless steel bowl -- good for up to 14 dozen cookies per mix -- is our testers' choice. "Avid bakers will love this," says one.

BEST OVERALL

Breville the Bakery Chef Stand Mixer, $300
surlatable.com

Our testers praised this "quiet yet powerful" mixer, but it's the little extras -- like the built-in digital timer, a bowl like that illuminates ingredients and 12 speed settings -- that really set it apart.
