"The dining experience at many ski resorts across the US is fairly mundane," said Matt Lorelli in "Powder" magazine. Criminally priced burgers and chicken fingers are the norm. "There are a few ski resorts, however, that continue to take their on-mountain dining experiences to the next level." Clearly, location matters.

The Roundhouse - Sun Valley
Idaho's Sun Valley resort is renowned for "a secret sauce you can't necessarily taste: class." While all of its on-mountain day lodges serve high-quality food, the mid-mountain Roundhouse is "the creme de la creme." After a long day on the slopes, it's hard to beat fondue, a bottle of Champagne, and "sweeping views of the Wood River Valley."

Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro - Aspen
The view from the restaurant that sits at the top of Aspen Highlands' Cloud Nine lift is truly breathtaking. The Euro-style cabin will have you believing you're in the Alps, while the fondue, tartare, and caviar are all top-notch. "Stick around for the daily DJ and Champagne showers. It's a party!"

The Sticky Wicket - Deer Valley
The food is "good all around" at Utah's Deer Valey, but "if we had to pick one place for a meal and a beer after a day of skiing, we'd have to go with the newly built Sticky Wicket." Stop in and you can enjoy the brisket fries or a Nashville hot chicken sandwich while feasting your eyes on memorabilia from skiing's golden era.

Bearclaw Cabin - Sundance
"Rustic charm" abounds at the Utah resort Robert Redford built, and Bearclaw Cabin is Sundance's "premier destination for on-mountain fare." Head to the Tree Room for elk loin by candelight amid Redford's art collection or try the more casual Lookout to snack on the nachos. "They're famous for a reason."
